Cross-Country Corvette Stage 4: 1278 kms

Date of Travel: May 3, 2015

Today's drive took us across the Prairies from Drumheller to Winnipeg, Manitoba.  Taking AB-56 southwards, we rejoined the Trans-Canada Highway near Bassono and then rolled eastwards through through Brooks, Medicine Hat, Swift Current, Moose Jaw, Regina, Brandon and Portage la Prairie, all places I had heard of but which we had never seen.  Actually, we didn't see much of them either from the highway as we were now in get-home-mode.

It was a long day at the wheel but interesting nonetheless.  The wide-open skies of the Prairie Provinces are most impressive, as was the lack of traffic on the Trans-Canada Highway.  There are many level crossings since the communities are so small and so spread out that building an interchange makes no economic sense.  It was a bit disconcerting to get back on the highway from a stop signed side road but works well enough.

Saskatchewan has a lack of roadside amenities and stopping for a nature break is something of a challenge with no trees to hid behind!  A few Tim Horton's outlets would have been much appreciated.

We reached Winnipeg as darkness fell and cruised in a big circle looking for a place to stay.  In the end, we looped around the entire city and were back on the west side where we came in.  Our Motel 6 looked like it was built a few months ago and was super-clean and quite comfortable.  As the sole driver (Linda not able to drive a manual transmission car yet), I slept very, very soundly after 13 hours of driving.
